The Cat Genie is a little more complex in design. It looks a lot like just a little toilet, only the bowl is filled with special granules instead of typical kitty litter. The cat uses the granules as usual, then the toilet "flushes" itself on a seven minute cycle. There is an automatic scoop that clears out solid waste, and the urine filters through the granules to the disposal tray underneath. The flushing actions also cleans the bowl with a mixture contained in a special cartridge.
There are some unfavorable points for Cat Genie as well. The unit must be hooked to a water source and also an electrical outlet. For that reason it may be difficult for some to find a space appropriate for the machine. Cat Genie also requires special granules and cleaning cartridges, that may become a financial burden over time. As with the other system, there is still the possibility of the cat rejecting the system and refusing to use it.
Automatic litter boxes are great time savers, and they allow people to avoid the nastiness of kitty waste as much as possible. For this reason alone many are willing to invest a chunk of change in the technology.
This Litter Robot review is quite positive generally with the only recurring complaint being its size. Cat Genie has good comments except for the cost and annoyance of the extra accessories and the requirement for a water hook-up. In the end, the cats are likely to have the last say since they are the ones who will decide on whether they actually use the new gadget.
