Nikola Tesla His Incredible Life And Invention The Tesla Generator

Nikola Tesla was a brilliant scientist and inventor praised by his contemporaries as "one of the remarkable intellectual people of the world who paved the way for many of the technological developments of modern times," Nikola Tesla envisioned and discovered the rotating magnetic field that became the basis for his later innovations: the alternating-current dynamo, the Tesla generator and the Tesla coil.

Nikola Tesla learned engineering in Czechoslovakia and Austria and in his youth he was poetic dreamer with a strong sense of self-discipline and a desire for precision. While in Budapest, Tesla first visualized the principle of the rotating magnetic field after seeing an exhibition of the Gramme dynamo. He then proceeded to generate plans for an induction generator that would become the foundation for the alternating-current generator that he went on to develop.

When Tesla emigrated to the United States in 1884, he arrived with only a few cents in his pocket, some of his poems and blueprints for a flying device He began by working with Thomas Edison, but the two men soon parted because of their vast ethnic and methodology differences. By offering his patent legal rights to his electrical induction generator to George Westinghouse in 1885, Tesla sparked the intense debate between the Westinghouse Electric Company and Edison's company over the use of direct current or alternating current in electric power distribution. The Edison system developed direct current, while the Tesla-Westinghouse technique produced the alternating current which eventually won out.

While working with Westinghouse, Tesla conducted numerous experiments in his own laboratory with carbon button lights, electrical resonance, and lightning. He presented presentations in which he lit light bulbs using his body as a conductor, and he traveled worldwide to allay fears about the imagined potential risks of alternating-current electrical power. Tesla invented the Tesla coil in 1891--a device that produces high-frequency electrical power that is often used in electronic models and radio communications. Westinghouse contracted Tesla to develop the very first power machinery at Niagara Falls, which was producing energy for Buffalo by 1896. Source: Tesla Secret Generator

Tesla conducted later experiments on wireless transmission of electrical current and wireless communications now known as the Tesla Generator. He illuminated 200 lamps with no wires in a demonstration at Colorado Springs, where he worked from May 1899 to early 1900, and he also claimed to have received signals from another planet while working in his laboratory. The later claim met with derision, and Tesla went back to New York in 1900, where he set about the construction of an international broadcasting tower financed by J. Pierpont Morgan. When Morgan later backed out, the whole operation failed miserably and eventually left Tesla with his biggest defeat. He had been later disappointed again by erroneous reports that he was to share the Nobel prize with Edison. Tesla's later work with turbines led to no major advancements in the electrical energy industry, and Tesla spent the rest of his life progressively paralyzed by a growing germ phobia and eccentricity.
